What does learning experience mean? I believe it's not an easy question. In my essay I'll try to answer it. I remember when I came home from a kindergarten being very disappointed. One of my friends brought quite a thick book to the kindergarten.
He told us that he had read the whole book. Furthermore, he demonstrated us his amazing ability. I was five years old then and you can only imagine how I felt upset. When I told this history to my mother, she laughed at me and said that I was silly. On the morning of the next day I found very big and gaily colored ABC-book.
I will never forget this nice book. Even now, I sometimes look through my first book. This is aquamarine book with a big number of pictures. Days passed very quickly. My Mom always found time to seat with me and teach me to read. Last year I decided to apply for U. I had to study the U. Learning history helped me understand American culture better and helped my English too.
The English part of the test turned out to be easy, and I passed the history test too and became an American citizen. Although I have a long way to go, when I look back at my ability when I first came to the U.
I want to continue to learn English so I can achieve my next big goal of leaving accounting and working in sales and marketing. The key for selling is communication. I know that English is very important for this type of job which is why I am taking this class and other English and writing classes. I have since taken several learning styles tests. The results confirm my experiences in learning English over the years.
The tests they showed that I am mainly a visual learner — I learn by seeing and looking. The test said that second I was a kinesthetic learner and then an auditory learner. As I have described above, in learning English has been easiest for me to see and try to write the language using written materials. This also confirms why it has been more difficult for me in learning English by hearing and speaking. I have spent a lot of time trying to listen, hear and speak English because it is so important for learning a language, and it explains why this was always very difficult for me. So in my case, the learning styles test is accurate.
There have been many articles written by scholars on the topic of learning styles. I read four of them. Sternberg, published September 27, in Insider Higher Ed. The article discusses variety of factors that impact how well students learn. Sternberg then discusses that students, professors and schools all favor or reward these different ways of learning. All three of these preferences can affect how well a student performs in a particular class at a particular college.
Felder and Barbara A. The article discusses and compares four sets learning styles. The article recommends that students in courses that are taught using a style different than their natural style should compensate by using their natural learning style when studying on their own.
My School Life Essay
The author main point is that contrary to opinion of many psychologists and educators, a new study by four psychologists says there is no evidence of any benefits of a teacher matching his or her instruction to the learning styles of the students and that teachers should not attempt to do so. Instead, the study says that teachers should match the instruction to content of the course. Some concepts are best for hands-on work, others for lectures and others for group discussions. But the new study has been criticized as not in-depth enough and did not considering all of the other studies in the area.
Even one famous professor in this area who agrees that the new study is not in-depth enough, David A. The author says that teachers and universities often offer students only a narrow choice of learning styles and that a larger choice of styles will help more students be more successful. The author discusses different types of learning styles and says that teachers also have their own learning styles that affect the way they teach. The main goal is to increase the types of learning and teaching styles so that more students have a better chance of academic success. The author then says that technology can assist in increasing the types of learning styles available to students.
The technology should not only be used to do electronically what we have done before off-line. Instead it should also be used to take advantage of the characteristics of each type of technology.
Presentation software such as PowerPoint can add visuals that help left and right brain thinkers. E-mail, such as listservers, can extend the discussion beyond the classroom and bulletin boards can increase the interaction between students or between students and the teacher. Database programs can assist students in illustrating various scenarios. Thinking back on the way I have learned English over the many years, it is clear I am visual learner -- I learn by seeing and looking.
I had the most success when reading and using written materials. I enjoyed reading books, newspapers and magazines and I found that I was able to retain knowledge, information and even pronunciation when using written materials. This was the time when I was a lucky newly qualified Primary teacher, and I was given a grant by the Spanish government to go to an English speaking country to take a 12 week English course.
I felt I was doing the best I could do at that point in my life: personal development — new country, new friends, new experiences — plus accelerating my English proficiency, that at some point would help my professional development. My fluency was improving at an incredible speed.
I could speak with everybody, understand everybody, even have meaningful conversations. We were communicating through intermediate level English, and I had the illusion that I could speak English. In fact, I could speak, but I would find out later I still had many rocks to climb…. Or maybe it was just that I knew very few people who had passed it. I found a private language school that suited my needs.
I loved the face-to-face classes, and my chatty Scottish teacher, so that was a green tick.
There were only three of us enrolled on the course, and not everyone always turned up, so I had one-to-one lessons very often. That was another green tick. Imagine a hot room, filled with PCs and students with headphones and bored faces.tf.nn.threadsol.com/gedin-location-whatsapp.php

I was shocked. Is that actually an instruction? A goal? How do I know I am doing it right? I had no teacher checking my progress, so I started questioning why I was doing all those boring exercises. And finally, the PCs were older than mine. You know how that feels.

You had to be really motivated to learn English in that room. I felt almost as frustrated as I ever had before in my English journey. I thought CAE meant I spoke English fairly well, but I was still struggling to communicate naturally in everyday situations. Maybe because I never did before? Kito and Mila were 6 and 8 years old back then, and they are the the best teachers I have ever had.
They showed me English in action, and this is what I exactly needed. Sometimes they explained words to me and we recorded it on video. This is one of my favourites:. When people walk passed them they think they have to say some wishes, and I just picked up one and I made a wish. I am not telling you though! About 6 months after living with them, one night I was falling asleep watching an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. I used to watch it with English subtitles, otherwise I missed too much. To be honest, though, it was a bit of a hassle, because I had to find them and load them separately.
That night I forgot to load them and guess what?! I understood Larry David. I learned English in many formats: locally, abroad, face-to-face, online, one-to-one, in a monolingual class, in a multilingual class, with and without books, in General English courses, Exam preparation courses, compulsory, after school, in a language exchange, in summer camps, at University, informally, with a native speaker host family, with native speaker colleagues…I even speak English with my boyfriend! The amount of time put into my English learning is uncountable. I could have built an app with all that money or travelled the world by bicycle many times!
